My name is Zack Peñalva. I am a recent graduate of Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. I have always loved writing and had an interest in the field of journalism. I received my bachelor’s degree in journalism and digital storytelling with minors in public relations and Spanish.

During my time at Asbury, I had a lot of chances to grow and operate within all sorts of media. I served as the sports editor of the campus newspaper, The Asbury Collegian for the three years, assigning and creating articles for the print and online editions. I interned for the Asbury Sports Information Office as an online content writer and social media manager. I scheduled posts for the department’s Instagram page and created graphics to promote upcoming events.

I was a designer for Explore Jessamine, a guide magazine distributed by the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce. I worked as part of a team that conducted research and created promotional materials to help grow the Theatre major at Asbury. I also managed the social media for a 5k put on by the Hands and Feet Project, an organization that works to provide care and resources for orphans in Haiti.

Outside of school, I’ve worked for the past four summers as the Director of Descubriendo Indy, a summer camp that primarily serves Latino children in urban Indianapolis. I’ve been responsible for the coordinating of field trips and lunches, as well as day to day operations at the camp.
